This marks the fourth year Football Gazette has selected NCAA Division II All-Region teams. The national publication has selected NCAA Division II All-America teams since 1988.
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2005 NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-America team will be selected in early January.
Bell, a junior from Canyon, Texas, passed for 3,799 yards and 30 touchdowns in leading the Buffaloes to a 10-2 overall record and an NCAA-II playoff berth. Bell, who finished seventh in the Hill Trophy voting, directed a WTAMU offense that led NCAA-II in passing (363.8 ypg). He ranked third nationally in total offense (349.2 ypg).
Race, a junior from Warrensburg, Mo., rushed the ball 239 times for 1,846 yards and 33 touchdowns. Race, who finished fourth in the Hill Trophy voting, tied the NCAA-II single-season rushing touchdown record despite being hampered by hamstring injuries in PSU\'s final five games. Despite the injuries, Race ranked second in Division II in scoring (15.2 ppg) and ninth in rushing (142.0 ypg), helping the Gorillas post a 10-4 record and reach the NCAA-II quarterfinals.
National runner-up Northwest Missouri State University and Southwest Region finalist Pittsburg State University led the way with nine selections apiece on the All-Region squads.
A total of 84 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-Southwest Region honors. Players from 24 of the 36 football-playing schools in the Southwest Region earned All-Southwest Region accolades.
